WALLACHIAN WEDDING COSTUMES FROM PLEVEN REGION from the beginning of the XXth century, shown by the charming Alexandra Dinovska from the town of Koynare. The costume is from the private collection of Tanya Kirovska - Gramatikova, connoisseur and researcher of traditional costumes from Northern Bulgaria.
👉The costume consists of a shirt (kamasha) richly embroidered with red and black threads on the bosom, skirts and length of sleeves, a front (boshadan na inte) and back apron (zavelka ot boshadan an darat), a waistband, white stockings and a white headscarf (broblada) trimmed on all sides with sequins and beads. The front apron is longer with woven flowers and the back apron is red and shorter. The belt is embroidered with the same ornaments as the shirt and is circled with lace.
The costume is shown on the cover of the calendar "Girl, Marie, beautiful" with folk costumes for 2022. You can see the calendar here.
Here is how Alex Dinovska presents herself:
"My name is Alexandra Dimitrova Dinovska. I was born and raised in a small town in northern Bulgaria. Its name is Koynare. (Located in Pleven region)
I am named after my grandfather, who was named Andrey.
I finished my secondary education in my hometown - Koynare. I am currently a student at VTU - 3rd year, majoring in Primary and Special School Pedagogy.
Since I was a child I have been taking part in the dance group of the local community center. I owe my love for folklore to my maternal and paternal relatives. My family respects and honors Bulgarian folk traditions.
The feeling of wearing a costume for more than 100 years is amazing. I would wear a folk costume again, no matter what the occasion.
What is Bulgaria for me? For me, Bulgaria is everything. "
